Games / Subnautica 2 / High Capacity Air Tank

1 Why Double Oxygen Changes Everything

🫁

High Capacity Air Tank

★★☆☆☆ — Double Oxygen (90s)
Early Game

The High Capacity Air Tank doubles your underwater breathing time from 45 seconds to 90 seconds. That extra 45 seconds isn't just convenience — it's the difference between reaching a fragment at 150m depth and drowning on the way back. It's the single most impactful early-game upgrade.

★ What This Means for You

Every dive you make before this upgrade is a gamble against your oxygen meter. After this upgrade, you can explore wrecks properly, reach deeper areas safely, and stop panicking every time you go below 50m. This should be your FIRST priority after basic survival.

4 Optimal Collection Route

Follow this order to minimize backtracking and maximize efficiency.

① Get Standard O2 Tank

You likely already have this from your Lifepod. If not, craft one: 2 Titanium + 1 Fiber Mesh (2 Creepvine Samples).

② Gather Materials

Quartz: Mine nodes in Safe Shallows caves (easy, everywhere)
Titanium: Farm Limestone Outcrops (need 4)
Silver Ore: Find Sandstone Outcrops in Kelp Forest caves (need 2)

③ Craft

All at Fabricator → Equip
OXYGEN: 90 SECONDS

5 ⚠ Gotcha Tips — Don't Waste Your Time

Read this BEFORE you start.

⚠ Silver Ore is the bottleneck

You need 2 Silver Ore from Sandstone Outcrops (~30% rate). Kelp Forest caves are best. Bring extra O2 — you'll be spending time searching.

⚠ Doesn't stack with Rebreather

The Rebreather (different item) reduces depth-based O2 drain. The High Capacity Tank increases total O2. Use BOTH together for maximum underwater time.

6 🎁 Free Benefits — Loot Along the Way

Don't leave empty-handed.

🎁 Kelp Forest cave dive

While getting Silver Ore: Find Gold (same outcrops), collect Seaglide Fragments (often in caves), and scan unique cave creatures.

🎁 Quartz cave exploration

While mining Quartz: Safe Shallows caves have Metal Salvage (Titanium), Salt Deposits (for water), and often small supply crates from crashed pods.
