The Engine Efficiency Module reduces your Tadpole's power consumption by 15%. That doesn't sound like much until you're 300m deep, far from base, and watching your Power Cell drain while searching for the last fragment. This module is the difference between making it home and swimming back in the dark.
Power management is the silent killer in Subnautica 2. Every meter you travel, every light you turn on, every scan you make drains power. The Engine Efficiency Module stacks with the Photovoltaic Charger (solar recharge near surface), giving you virtually unlimited range during daytime exploration.

4 Optimal Collection Route
Follow this order to minimize backtracking and maximize efficiency.
① Scan Fragments (Easy)
Both fragments are in shallow wrecks — Kelp Forest (~80m) and Grassy Plateaus (~100m). Easy to reach with base Tadpole.
② Get Magnetite
Magnetite is the challenge. Best early source: Lava Geysers in Safe Shallows/Kelp Forest edges (~150-200m). Alternative: Jellyshroom Caves (~250m) — requires Depth Module MK1 or Seaglide deep dive.
③ Install
Craft at Vehicle Modification Station → Install on Tadpole

5 ⚠ Gotcha Tips — Don't Waste Your Time
Read this BEFORE you start.
Magnetite outcrops are dark metallic spheres on cave walls. They blend in — use your scanner or look for the subtle metallic sheen.
The heat from Lava Geysers slowly damages your Tadpole. Park at a safe distance and swim in with Seaglide to collect Magnetite.

Don't leave empty-handed.
While getting Magnetite: Lava Geysers have Thermal Vents (for Thermal Reactor plans), unique flora for PDA scans, and sometimes wreckage with useful items.
If you go deep: The caves have unique fauna (scan everything!), Shale Outcrops (Gold, Lithium, Diamond), and precursor data terminals.
