1 Why the Warp Totem: Farm Saves Hours of Walking

🏠

Warp Totem: Farm

★★★★☆ — Teleport Home Instantly
Foraging Level 8

The Warp Totem: Farm is the most practical teleportation item in Stardew Valley. When used, it instantly warps you to your farmhouse doorstep — regardless of where you are in the entire game world. Deep in the Skull Cavern at 1:50 AM? Warp home. Fishing at the Beach Pier and your inventory is full? Warp home. Foraging on Ginger Island and need to sleep? Warp home. This single-use consumable eliminates the single biggest time sink in the game: walking.

The crafting recipe unlocks at Foraging Level 8 — a significant but achievable milestone. The materials are refreshingly straightforward: 1 Hardwood (from Secret Woods), 1 Honey (from Bee Houses), and 20 Fiber (from grass/weeds everywhere). Unlike the Rain Totem which requires a 59,000g pig investment, the Warp Totem: Farm is accessible to any player who has progressed their foraging skill and set up basic beekeeping. This guide covers every material source, the fastest path to Foraging Level 8, and how to mass-produce these totems for daily use.

★ What This Means for You

With a chest full of Warp Totems next to your farmhouse door, you can plan your day with zero regard for travel time. Spend until 1:30 AM in the Skull Cavern, pop a totem, and wake up safely in bed. After Ginger Island unlocks, keep a chest of Warp Totems on the island — they work across the entire world. A stockpile of 50+ totems eliminates the #1 cause of passing out (losing 1,000g and random items) and adds 2-3 extra hours of productive time to every single day.

Skill Requirement

Foraging Level 8 — This is a moderately high foraging skill requirement. You gain Foraging XP by chopping trees (+12 XP each), picking up forageable items (+3 XP each), removing tree stumps (+1 XP), and harvesting from mushroom cave (+3 XP each). Expect to reach Level 8 around mid-to-late Year 1 if you forage consistently, or early Year 2 at a casual pace. Level 8 requires 4,800 XP total — equivalent to chopping ~400 trees or picking up ~1,600 forageables (or a mix of both).

3 Materials & Sources

Each material listed with exact source, season, location, and farming tips.

🪵 Hardwood

Source: Large Stumps in the Secret Woods
Season: Any — available year-round
Location: Secret Woods (northwest corner of Cindersap Forest, blocked by a Large Log). The Secret Woods contains 6 Large Stumps that respawn every single day, each giving 2 Hardwood when chopped. This yields a reliable 12 Hardwood per day.
Access Requirement: Steel Axe or better (upgrade at Clint's Blacksmith for 5,000g + 5 Iron Bars, takes 2 days). A Copper Axe cannot break the Large Log blocking the entrance.
Other Sources:
Farm Large Stumps — Forest Farm, Riverland Farm, and Four Corners Farm spawn Large Stumps that can be chopped for 2 Hardwood each (Steel Axe required).
Large Logs — Randomly spawn on any farm map. Each gives 8 Hardwood but does not respawn.
Mines — Breaking wooden barrels and crates sometimes drops 1 Hardwood.
Wood Skip — A fish caught in the Secret Woods pond (20% chance) that gives 2 Hardwood when placed in a Recycling Machine.
Tree Stumps — All farm maps have random stumps that give 2 Hardwood each when chopped with a Copper+ Axe.
Total Needed: 1 Hardwood per Warp Totem
Tip: Make visiting the Secret Woods a daily habit. The 12 Hardwood per day from Secret Woods is enough for 12 Warp Totems daily — more than you'll ever need. Bring a chest near the entrance to store excess Hardwood. See our Rain Totem guide for another recipe that uses Hardwood.

🍯 Honey

Source: Collect from Bee Houses
Season: Spring, Summer, Fall — Bee Houses do NOT produce Honey in Winter
Location: Place Bee Houses on your farm. After 3-4 in-game days, the Bee House will have Honey ready to collect.
Bee House Recipe: Unlocked at Farming Level 3. Recipe: 40 Wood + 8 Coal + 1 Iron Bar + 1 Maple Syrup. Place anywhere outdoors (not in sheds or buildings).
Honey Value with Flowers:
No flower nearby: Wild Honey — sells for 100g
Tulip: Tulip Honey — 160g
Blue Jazz: Blue Jazz Honey — 200g
Summer Spangle: Summer Spangle Honey — 280g
Poppy: Poppy Honey — 380g
Sunflower: Sunflower Honey — 260g
Fairy Rose: Fairy Rose Honey — 680g (best value)
Flower Range: A flower within 5 tiles (in any cardinal direction) of a Bee House will flavor the honey. One flower can affect multiple Bee Houses if placed strategically.
Winter Issue: Bee Houses do not produce Honey in Winter. Stockpile Honey during Fall (last production is Fall 28, resume Spring 1). A chest of 50+ Honey will last through Winter.
Alternative Sources:
Oasis shop (Sandy) — sells Honey on Thursdays for 200g
Krobus — sells Honey on Saturdays for 200g
Artisan Goods shop (Pierre's on Saturdays) — sometimes sells Honey
Tip: Plant Fairy Roses near your Bee Houses in Fall for 680g Honey (952g with Artisan profession). A grid of 8 Bee Houses around one Fairy Rose generates 5,440g every 4 days — that's 1,360g per day passively. The Honey used in Warp Totems is essentially free when your bee operation is this profitable.

🌿 Fiber (20 units)

Source: Cut weeds and grass with a Scythe
Season: Spring and Summer (most abundant). Weeds still spawn in Fall but less frequently. Winter has minimal weed growth.
Location: Everywhere — your farm, Cindersap Forest, the Railroad, the Backwoods, and the Mines.
Best Farming Methods:
Clear your entire farm of weeds in early Spring — This alone typically gives 50-100 Fiber. Weeds regrow throughout the season, so check back weekly.
Cindersap Forest — The forest south of your farm has dense weed patches that respawn every few days. A quick scythe run yields 10-20 Fiber.
Railroad area (unlocked after Summer Year 1 earthquake or Community Center Boiler Room) — Large weed patches respawn regularly.
Mines — Weeds on mine floors drop 1-3 Fiber each and respawn when you re-enter.
Alternative Sources:
Recycling Machine — Putting Newspaper into a Recycling Machine has a 50% chance to yield 3 Fiber. Save every Newspaper!
Worm Bins — Produce 1-5 Fiber every few days (unlocked at Fishing Level 6)
Mushroom Floor — If you chose the Mushroom cave, the mine mushroom floor (random event) has mushrooms that can be scythed for Fiber
Desert Trader — Trade 5 Stone for 1 Fiber (not recommended — inefficient)
Tilling soil — Using a Hoe on dirt patches on your farm sometimes yields 1 Fiber
Total Needed: 20 Fiber per Warp Totem
Tip: Stockpile Fiber early. In Spring Year 1, clear every weed on your farm and store Fiber in a dedicated chest. You'll need Fiber for: Grass Starter (1 Fiber), Wild Seeds (various), Scarecrows, Flute Blocks, Drum Blocks, and the Sprinkler recipe. 20 Fiber per totem adds up fast if you're mass-producing. A chest with 200+ Fiber ensures you never run out.

🌿 Foraging XP — Reaching Level 8

XP Sources:
• Picking up a forageable item (wild plant on ground): +3 XP each
• Chopping down a tree with an axe: +12 XP
• Removing a tree stump (after chopping tree): +1 XP
• Picking up a mushroom from the farm cave: +3 XP each
• Collecting from tapped trees: +0 XP (does not give XP)
XP Requirements by Level:
• Level 1: 0 XP | Level 2: 100 | Level 3: 380 | Level 4: 770
• Level 5: 1,300 (choose profession) | Level 6: 2,150 | Level 7: 3,300
• Level 8: 4,800 | Level 9: 7,000 | Level 10: 10,000
Level 8 requires 4,800 XP total. That's approximately 400 trees chopped, or 1,600 forageables collected, or a combination. At a casual pace (chopping farm trees + daily foraging), most players reach Level 8 by Summer or Fall of Year 1.
Fastest Method: In Spring Year 1, pick up every forageable you see (especially Salmonberry bushes on Spring 15-18 — each bush gives 4 berries at +3 XP each). Chop every non-fruit tree on your farm. Visit the Secret Woods daily for the stumps and forageables there. By Fall Year 1, you should be Level 7-8.
Profession at Level 5: Choose "Gatherer" (20% chance of double harvest) — this helps with resource collection. At Level 10, "Botanist" makes all foraged items highest quality.
Tip: Salmonberry season (Spring 15-18) is the biggest foraging XP boost of the year. Shake every Salmonberry bush — there are 50+ bushes in Cindersap Forest alone, yielding 200+ berries for 600+ XP. Don't miss this window!

4 Optimal Collection Route

Follow this order to minimize backtracking and maximize efficiency. This route assumes a standard Year 1 playthrough.

① Spring Year 1 — Farm Clearing + Foraging Foundation

On Day 1, craft a Scythe (free, already in inventory) and clear every weed on your farm. Each weed drops 1-2 Fiber. You should collect 30-60 Fiber from this alone — store it all. Chop every non-fruit tree on your farm for Wood and +12 Foraging XP each. Pick up every forageable item (Spring Onions, Daffodils, Leeks, Morels, Salmonberries on 15-18). By end of Spring, you should be Foraging Level 4-5 with 100+ Fiber stockpiled.

② Spring-Summer Year 1 — Axe Upgrade + Secret Woods + Bee Houses

Upgrade your Axe to Steel at Clint's (5,000g + 5 Iron Bars). Break the Large Log blocking the Secret Woods entrance (northwest Cindersap Forest). Begin daily Secret Woods visits for 12 Hardwood per day. At Farming Level 3, craft your first Bee Houses (40 Wood + 8 Coal + 1 Iron Bar + 1 Maple Syrup). Place 4-8 Bee Houses near flowers for flavored honey. Continue foraging daily — check the Bus Stop, Railroad, Beach, and Secret Woods each morning.

③ Summer-Fall Year 1 — Fiber Stockpile + Honey Production

Continue clearing weeds on your farm weekly (they regrow). Visit Cindersap Forest and the Railroad for additional Fiber. Your Bee Houses should be producing Honey every 3-4 days — collect and store in a chest. Plant Fairy Roses near Bee Houses in Fall for maximum honey value (680g each). By Fall 15, you should have 50+ Honey and 200+ Fiber stockpiled — enough for dozens of Warp Totems.

④ Reach Foraging Level 8

If you haven't reached Foraging Level 8 by Winter, focus on chopping trees. The Railroad and Cindersap Forest have trees that respawn. Each tree gives +12 XP. Chop 40 trees and you'll gain the remaining XP needed. Also pick up all Winter forageables (Crystal Fruit, Holly, Snow Yam, Crocus) for +3 XP each. Check the Beach daily for Winter-specific items.

⑤ Final Assembly + Mass Production

With all materials gathered and Foraging Level 8 reached: Open crafting menu WARP TOTEM: FARM. Craft 10-20 totems at once and store them in a chest by your farmhouse door. Use them whenever you're far from home and the clock is ticking past midnight. With daily Secret Woods visits, you can craft 12 totems per day indefinitely.

5 ⚠ Gotcha Tips — Don't Waste Your Time

These mistakes will waste hours. Read this before you start.

⚠ Bee Houses don't work in Winter

Bee Houses completely stop producing Honey in Winter. The last harvest is Fall 28, and production resumes Spring 1. If you plan to craft Warp Totems in Winter, you must stockpile Honey during Fall. A chest of 50+ Honey will easily last through Winter. Alternatively, buy Honey from Sandy at the Oasis (Thursdays, 200g) or Krobus (Saturdays, 200g).

⚠ You need a Steel Axe for Secret Woods Hardwood

The Large Log blocking the Secret Woods entrance requires a Steel Axe or better. This costs 5,000g + 5 Iron Bars at Clint's and takes 2 days. Without it, your Hardwood supply is limited to random farm stump spawns — completely insufficient for mass Warp Totem production. Prioritize this upgrade in early Summer.

⚠ Weeds don't respawn quickly in Winter

Weed growth is minimal in Winter. If you need Fiber during Winter and didn't stockpile, your options are limited: tilling dirt patches with a Hoe (1-5% chance per tile), putting Newspapers in a Recycling Machine (50% chance for 3 Fiber), or checking the Mines for weed floors. Always keep 100+ Fiber in storage.

⚠ Fiber is needed for more than just totems

Fiber is a surprisingly scarce material needed for: Grass Starter (1 Fiber — essential for feeding animals), Sprinkler (1 Fiber), Scarecrow (1 Fiber + 20 Wood + 1 Coal), Wild Seeds (various amounts), Flute Blocks and Drum Blocks, and many other recipes. With 20 Fiber per Warp Totem, mass production can drain your reserves quickly. Maintain a minimum stockpile of 100 Fiber at all times.

⚠ The Return Scepter is the permanent solution

If you find yourself crafting Warp Totems constantly, save up 2,000,000g and buy the Return Scepter from Krobus in the Sewers. It provides infinite instant teleportation to your farmhouse — no materials needed, no crafting required. It's the best gold investment in the game for quality of life. But until you can afford it, Warp Totems are the perfect budget alternative.

⚠ Hardwood competes with other recipes

Hardwood is needed for many other recipes: Cheese Press (10), Oil Maker (20), Hardwood Fence (1 each), Cork Bobber (10), Rain Totem (1 — see our Rain Totem guide), and more. With only 12 Hardwood per day from Secret Woods, plan your crafting queue. Warp Totem: Farm uses only 1 Hardwood each — very efficient compared to other recipes.

⚠ Honey quality matters for selling, not crafting

When using Honey for crafting (like Warp Totems), the flower type doesn't matter — any Honey works. But when selling Honey, Fairy Rose Honey (680g) is 6.8x more valuable than Wild Honey (100g). Always plant Fairy Roses near Bee Houses in Fall for maximum profit. Save your cheapest Honey (Wild Honey from off-season Bee Houses) for crafting totems.

6 🎁 Free Benefits — What You Get Along the Way

While gathering Warp Totem: Farm materials, you'll accumulate wealth, XP, and resources that benefit your entire farm. Don't leave these on the table.

🎁 Bee House empire = passive income

Setting up 8-12 Bee Houses near Fairy Roses generates 5,440g every 4 days (680g x 8 houses). That's 1,360g per day with zero maintenance beyond initial setup. Bee Houses are one of the most profitable crafting stations per tile in the game. The Honey for your Warp Totems is a tiny fraction of your total production.

🎁 Secret Woods = daily resource bonanza

Daily Secret Woods visits yield 12 Hardwood, plus forageables unique to the woods: Morels (Spring, used in Fried Mushroom and Strange Bun), Fiddlehead Ferns (Summer, used in Fiddlehead Risotto), Chanterelles (Fall), and Holly (Winter). The Secret Woods pond also has the Woodskip fish (needed for Community Center).

🎁 Foraging Level 8 unlocks more recipes

At Foraging Level 8, you unlock not just Warp Totem: Farm but also increased foraging radius and quality. At Level 9, you unlock the Rain Totem (see our Rain Totem guide) — another powerful weather tool. At Level 10, the "Botanist" profession makes all foraged items Iridium quality, doubling their value. The foraging skill tree is one of the most rewarding in the game.

🎁 Fiber stockpile for other crafting

While collecting 20 Fiber per totem, you'll amass hundreds of extra Fiber. This is essential for: Grass Starter (feed your animals — 1 Fiber each), Wild Seeds (craft seasonal seeds from forageables), and building recipes. Excess Fiber can be sold for 1g each (not much, but every bit helps early-game).

🎁 Weed clearing = farm beautification

Clearing weeds for Fiber also beautifies your farm and prevents weeds from spreading to your crops. Weeds can destroy crops if left unchecked — regular clearing is good farm maintenance. The scythe also harvests Grass which becomes Hay in your Silo (animal feed for Winter).

🎁 Multiple Warp Totem types unlock

Learning Warp Totem: Farm opens your eyes to the entire totem system. Other craftable totems include: Warp Totem: Beach (Foraging Level 6 — Hardwood + Coral + Fiber), Warp Totem: Mountains (Foraging Level 7 — Hardwood + Iron Bar + Stone), and Warp Totem: Desert (from the Desert Trader for Omni Geodes). A complete totem network makes the entire valley accessible in seconds.
