Nergigante Hammer

★★★★★ Endgame
Elder Dragon Devastation

Overview

The Nergigante Hammer is one of the pinnacle raw damage weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. Boasting a massive 1508 base attack, innate Elderseal capability, and some of the highest raw damage output of any hammer in the game, this weapon is the reward for mastering one of the most fearsome Elder Dragons.

Elderseal suppresses Elder Dragon auras and abilities — making this hammer not just a raw powerhouse but also a strategic tool against the toughest endgame foes. The dragon-element aesthetic with jagged spike detailing makes it one of the most visually intimidating hammers in the game.

Materials

Nergigante Horn
×2
Break Horns
65%

Horns break relatively easily with focused head attacks. A good opening target. Both horns must break for max rewards.

Nergigante Talon
×4
Break Legs
30%

Leg breaks are safest when Nergigante is downed. Target front legs — they share a break threshold.

Nergigante Tail
×2
Sever Tail
75%

High carve rate but requires a cutting weapon. Consider a secondary blade weapon or rely on your Palico.

Nergigante Gem
×1
Carve / Reward
2%

The ultimate grind. At 2%, expect 30–50 hunts on average. Gold reward box Investigations and the Elder Melder are your best friends.

Nergigante Carapace
×6
Break White Spikes
35%

Break white spikes before they turn black. Black spikes are harder and don’t drop Carapace.

Elder Dragon Blood
×3
Quest Reward Only
N/A

Cannot be carved — only from quest reward boxes. More reward boxes = more chances. Investigations are critical.

Dragonite Ore
×8
Mining
30%

Abundant in Elder’s Recess. Run mining routes between hunts or during expeditions.

Optimal Route

1

Master the Spike Mechanic

Nergigante grows white spikes that harden to black over time. White spikes break easily and drop Carapace. Black spikes cause weapon bounce (unless you have Mind’s Eye). Prioritize breaking white spikes before they mature.

Tip: When all body spikes turn black, Nergigante uses his dive-bomb super attack — a massive AoE. Superman-dive or sheathe and sprint to survive.

2

Systematic Part Destruction

Recommended order: Horns → Legs → Tail

  • Horns (2 breaks): Focus head when he’s tired or trapped. 65% Horn drop rate.
  • Legs (2 breaks): Front legs share break threshold. Safer than head during enrage.
  • Tail (sever): Use a cutting weapon or Palico with cutting damage.
3

Gem Grind (2% Drop Rate)

At 2%, the Gem is harder than Rathalos Plate. Expect 30–50 hunts on average. Maximize your odds:

  • Run Tempered Investigations with 4-5 purple reward boxes
  • Use Elder Melder to trade other Elder Dragon gems
  • Complete the Elder Dragon weekly bounty for a shot at trade-in tickets
  • Gold and Silver reward boxes can contain Gems
4

Forging

With Gem in hand, craft at the Smithy. The hammer has a direct upgrade path — be prepared to farm Nergigante again for the final upgrade stage.

Gotcha Tips

☠️ Gem 2% — Worse Than Rathalos Plate

At a brutal 2% carve rate, the Nergigante Gem is one of the rarest materials in the game. Expect a serious grind. The Elder Melder can trade other Elder Dragon gems for it — save your gold wyverian prints!

⚠️ Black Spikes = Bounce City

Without Mind’s Eye (_skill or decoration_), hitting blackened body parts will cause your weapon to bounce. This interrupts combos and leaves you vulnerable. Break white spikes ASAP or bring Mind’s Eye.

⚠️ Nergigante Gets Stronger as the Fight Goes On

His spikes regrow and harden faster the more damage he takes. Long fights become increasingly dangerous. Play aggressively and end hunts fast — don’t play defensively.

⚠️ Elder Dragon Blood Is Quest-Only

You cannot farm Elder Dragon Blood from carves or gathering. It only comes from quest reward boxes. This means Investigation quests with extra reward boxes are mandatory, not optional.

⚠️ Solo Farm Recommended

Nergigante scales heavily with multiplayer health. For efficient material farming (especially part breaks), solo hunts are significantly faster than SOS/random groups. Bring your Palico with a cutting weapon to help sever the tail.

Free Benefits
